It may not officially be Shark Week just yet, but in Alabama some beachgoers had a close encounter that seemed to shake up their sunny vacation day. While seeing a shark in the ocean is nothing new, this one decided to check out what the humans were up to when it got very close to the shore during a vicious pursuit of some prey. Thankfully, the entire thing was documented by some nearby witnesses.
In a shocking TikTok video, some people filmed the shark encounter from a beachfront room in Alabama. The people were in awe of what was happening, and worried about those in the water and on the beach. Meanwhile, the shark, which was thought to be a hammerhead, was seen quickly chasing what people believed to be a stingray.
The pursuit was intense as the shark followed the stingray extremely close to the shore, prompting those in the water to rush out of the ocean as fast as they could. All they could do was watch at the display of nature.
Alabama Shark Causes Panic On The Beach
The video was of great interest to many. The clip earned more than 1.7 million within the first 24 hours after it was shared on the social media platform. It’s also garned more than 1,300 comments and over 62,000 likes.
Of course, people couldn’t help but share their thoughts in the comment section.
“The reason I don’t go in the ocean is I’m no longer the top of the food chain,” one person stated.
“Won’t be going there ever,” declared another.
“Giving y’all a free show,” a third comment read.
“Out for a snack,” a fourth person chimed in.
“[Looks like] me chasing an Oreo cookie,” another joked.
Hammerheads Usually Aren’t Dangerous To Humans
However, if the shark was indeed a hammerhead, it seems that the people may not have been in as much danger as some might think. Since 1900 there have only been 16 recorded incidents between hammerheads and humans. Of those, zero deaths occurred, per Newsweek.
It seems that hammerheads don’t have much interest in people. Instead, this particular Alabama shark looked much more interested in finding it’s next meal. It may not have even noticed the beachgoers in a panic over it’s presence.
