As if the Fourth of July in America wasn’t already loaded with fireworks, hot dogs, and political tension, the capital city of Ohio is about to host a protest that’s sure to spark some fiery debates, both in real life and online. On July 4, 2025, at high noon, protestors will gather on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus for the “Fight 4 People’s Democracy” demonstration, and it’s already making waves on the internet.

The protest, which is calling for an end to Donald Trump’s influence and halting deportations, comes amid an already tense political climate in Ohio, a state that has quickly become one of the nation’s most watched battlegrounds for activism. During the “No Kings Day” demonstrations earlier this year, Ohio saw more than 80 different protests take place across the state. So if anyone thought Buckeye State residents were going to spend their Independence Day quietly grilling burgers in the backyard, think again.

The buzz started on Reddit, where a user posted in the Ohio group about the event. “Stop Donald Trump. Stop the deportations.” That message alone has triggered a tidal wave of opinions.

Ohio Protestors Ready To Spend July 4th Speaking Out Against Donald Trump

As is the case with nearly every politically charged event in the current climate, the protest has received a mixed response. Some users in the Ohio subreddit supported the cause, calling for allies to bring essentials like water to keep everyone safe in the hot summer temperatures.

“Even if you are driving through and showing support you can do such a huge part by bringing water so we can stay out there,” one comment read.

“There literally isn’t a more a fitting day for a protest,” agreed another.

“Make sure to have sun screen and water and be prepared,” stated a third person.

Not All Of Columbus Is On Board

But not everyone is on board with the group behind the protest. In fact, there’s been serious criticism about the organizing party’s alleged affiliations. One Reddit commenter stated, “Im going to a pool party and watching fireworks that day.” Another agreed, saying, “I couldn’t think of anything worse than protesting on my extra day off from work. 3-day weekend at that.”

As this Fourth of July protest nears, it’s clear that this won’t just be a peaceful picnic in the park. Whether you’re planning to join the demonstration, stay far away, or just scroll through the drama on social media with a side of potato salad, one thing’s certain: Ohio is becoming a hotbed for political expression, and the heat isn’t just coming from the summer sun.
