70s Teen Idol Donny Osmond Shows Off His Green Thumb With Giant Homegrown Utah Cucumber: ‘Definitely a State Fair Cucumber’
Former Teen Idol Donny Osmond has a long list of accomplishments throughout his lifetime. Not only is he an award-winning singer and entertainer, but he is also a husband, father, and now a successful Utah home gardener with quite the green thumb. When not performing for sold-out shows during his Las Vegas residency, the Puppy Love crooner loves spending time with his wife and family at their home.
One of his favorite pastimes during the summer is tending his backyard home garden, which he lovingly calls OsmondOrchards. During a recent social media update, Donny Osmond told his Instagram followers an amusing story about his 2026 garden. He reveals that while casually enjoying a snack of cucumbers, it dawned on him that it had been a couple of days since he had ventured outside to check on his garden. What he found not only stunned but also amused him and his wife of 48 years, Debbie.
Utah’s Donny Osmond Jokes ‘I Found the Great Cucumber’
Donny amusingly shares with his Instagram followers that he was more than a little surprised when he stepped inside his cucumber patch. He was stopped dead in his tracks when he saw what he now jokes is his dinner for a month. Osmond often updates his fans on social media with a gardening series called ‘Digging With Donny.’ The short gardening updates are popular with his followers and show a less-celebrity, more down-to-earth side of the 68-year-old singer.
Osmond explains that he is all about organic growth and chooses natural care, completely pesticide-free. After picking up the huge cucumber, Donny couldn’t wait to show off his impressive green thumb and trophy to his wife Debbie. He reveals that when he walked inside their home with the cucumber, his wife completely lost it laughing that they would be eating cucumber salad for weeks.
Of course, being a part of his gardening segment, Donny Osmond couldn’t wait to share the cucumber with his fans. He is seen in his video holding the overly large vegetable sideways in front of his face. Then, to show the shocking size, he turned it lengthwise beside his head and face to say, “This is the kind of thing you take to the, you know, the state fair and say, okay, beat this,” as he laughed.
Is Donny’s Cucumber State Fair Worthy?
It appears that the singer is seemingly joking about taking his prize to the Utah State Fair, but would he have a contender on his hands if he did? According to Utah State University Extension.com, the Utah State Fair guidelines state that the fair doesn’t judge on size. The fair’s regular vegetable competitions judge items on uniformity, color, and edible quality rather than maximum size.
So it looks like Donny may never really know whether his cucumber may have been a record breaker or not. Per ValleyBreeze.com, there is no official registry for heavy vegetables in the United States. They state that the World Record Academy tracks localized American triumph claims and that in 2016, a Knoxville, Maryland, man by the name of Butch Taulton reportedly grew a cucumber measuring 43 inches.
Back To Las Vegas
However, either way, Donny Osmond has quite the green thumb and possibly Utah bragging rights. But regardless, he has an amusing story to share with his family and fans. It will soon be time for the singer to hang up his garden shovel and head back to the bright lights of Las Vegas.
Donny is set to hit the stage on September 1 through December 2026, according to Caesars Entertainment. Tickets and schedules are available directly through the Harrah’s show guide and Ticketmaster. Standard pricing generally ranges from $65 to over $150.
The shows usually run from Tuesday through Saturday and begin at 7:30 pm lasting 90 minutes. The show is all-ages approved and, according to TripAdvisor, is highly acclaimed and widely considered one of the best entertainment values on the Strip. Donny Osmond’s show offers something for everyone, from nostalgia to an entertaining show and a memory most will not soon forget.
