The somber gathering brought out much of the Kelce family. Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, stood alongside his other famous football son, Jason, and Jason’s wife Kylie. But as the family gathered to say goodbye to Maguire, a beloved fixture in Ed’s life who passed away at 74. However, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were not seen at the Pennsylvania funeral.
It didn’t take long for the absence to set off speculation online. As one person bluntly put it, “We know why they weren’t there. They couldn’t care less.” Another chimed in with the question on everyone’s mind: “Travis was at training. Okay. But where was Taylor?” “So selfish,” added another. And perhaps the most pointed comment of all? “Training camp will let you leave for a funeral.”

He was photographed on the field at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, for the Chiefs’ training camp that very day. With the NFL season kicking off in September, the grind is real. However, as fans pointed out, football practice isn’t exactly federal prison; players can get permission to attend major life events.
As for Taylor, no explanation has surfaced. She wasn’t spotted anywhere in Pennsylvania, and her schedule in the past week hasn’t been made public. It’s worth noting that the singer’s own home state is, in fact, Pennsylvania making her absence sting just a bit more for some fans who expected to see her there in support of Ed and the family.
Maureen Maguire’s passing is clearly a deep loss for Ed Kelce. In her obituary, he remembered her fondly, sharing that she “loved the beach—especially the shore—and had a deep affection for dogs.” She also “grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures” with Ed and her loyal dog Butch. And in a lighter moment from the past, Ed once recalled that when Maguire saw him posing for a picture with Taylor Swift, she joked, “Hey, that’s my boyfriend.”
Fans Think The Couple Should Have Made An Appearance
That quip feels bittersweet now, considering the couple’s absence. The optics are not great. Whether it’s the demands of training camp, personal schedules, or other behind-the-scenes circumstances we don’t know, the fact remains that the two biggest names in the Kelce orbit weren’t there for a significant family goodbye.
Although Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce weren’t able to be in Pennsylvania to attend the funeral, their presence was likely felt. The singer especially is known for her generosity, and sending flowers, or paying for other costs may have been something she willingly contributed even though she wasn’t able to be there in person.
