‘Petty And Proud’: New Hampshire Woman Turns Bargain Hunting Into Psychological Sport During Wild Cat And Mouse Chase With Fellow Shopper

Bargain shopping can be a sport all on its own, especially when post-holiday clearance racks are involved. Anyone who’s ever combed through discounted seasonal décor knows the rules are mostly unspoken: browse respectfully, don’t snatch things out of someone’s hands, and maybe don’t start a feud over ceramic dinnerware. Unfortunately, one New Hampshire shopping trip proved that not everyone follows that code, and the internet absolutely loved what happened next.

The viral TikTok, posted by @sierramigg, captured the entire saga inside a HomeGoods store in New Hampshire the day after Christmas. The creator was casually vlogging while browsing the holiday clearance section when she picked up a vintage-style plate featuring a Christmas tree design. She showed it to the camera, debating whether or not it was worth buying. That hesitation turned out to be all the invitation another shopper needed.

Out of nowhere, a second woman swooped in and grabbed the remaining matching dishes off the shelf, effectively making the decision for her. The moment was so abrupt that it left the original shopper stunned. “Are we serious right now?” she asked the camera, clearly processing what just happened. “She literally just stole them from me,” she added, disbelief written all over her face.

While she kept the single plate already in her hand, the situation didn’t end there. As fate or retail karma would have it, she later discovered the same dish design in a smaller size elsewhere in the store. She scooped them up and placed them in her cart, which apparently caught the attention of the original plate-snatcher and her mother. The duo began following her around the store, watching her every move and waiting to see whether she’d commit to buying the plates or put them back.

Things escalated when the TikToker overheard the two women telling other customers that she had stolen the dishes. At that point, the situation crossed from awkward to outright ridiculous. Still filming, the New Hampshire shopper admitted she didn’t even really want the plates, but she definitely didn’t want the other women to have them after their behavior.

That’s when the pettiness entered its final form. First, she hid the plates so they couldn’t be found. Then, realizing the women were tracking her cart, she pivoted again. She retrieved the hidden dishes, put them back in her cart, and decided she would buy them purely out of spite, with plans to return them later.

TikTok Is Here For The Drama

“She’s not going to win. I’m going to win,” she declared. “If you’re gonna play petty with me, and you’re gonna do some [expletive] first, you go low. I’ll go lower.”

“Petty and proud,” one person commented. “The way I would of hid every plate separately,” said another. “This is my level of pettiness,” a third person added. “All this over some over consumerism,” a fourth comment read.

The internet, of course, was obsessed. Viewers praised the New Hampshire woman’s commitment, laughed at the escalating drama, and debated whether the move was justified or just unhinged. In the end, no laws were broken, no plates were shattered, and everyone walked away with a story, though not everyone walked away with discounted dinnerware.
