Pennsylvania native and rock legend Bret Michaels recently faced another major health crisis. But this time, it hit mid-tour. While performing in Washington, Pennsylvania, the 62-year-old solo artist and Poison frontman experienced a life-threatening scare. One that has forced him to reconsider the “completely insane” tour schedule he’s been maintaining across his North American tour.

Bret Michaels is a rock star, and one who doesn’t like to let his fans down, no matter the cost. Michaels recently found himself feeling under the weather just before he was due to take the stage. Bret pushed himself and powered through a packed pre-show meet-and-greet despite feeling that something was very off.

Despite his body’s warnings, Michaels still took the stage and even added extra songs to the setlist. But by the time he walked off, he knew his health was in serious troubleaccording to People Magazine. The singer’s blood sugar had plummeted to a critical 39 mg/dL, a dangerous and life-threateningly low level well beneath the CDC’s severe hypoglycemia threshold of 54 mg/dL.

This latest scare is far from Bret Michaels’ first brush with serious health issues. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just six years old, the rocker has spent his entire life managing the disease’s highs and lows. Over the years, he’s also faced a brain hemorrhage, a mini-stroke, an emergency appendectomy, and heart surgery. Each incident could’ve slowed him down for good, but Michaels has always bounced back stronger. Still, this latest event served as a serious wake-up call.

Bret Michaels Plans To Move Ahead With Gratitude And Caution

Michaels has been barreling across the country, performing back-to-back shows in cities hundreds of miles apart. From Pennsylvania to Montana, Pittsburgh to Oklahoma, the punishing travel has taken a visible toll. He admitted the summer schedule is chaotic and admitted some shows may need to be moved around to give him time to recover.

Despite the health scare, Michaels powered through his next scheduled stop at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma, calling the performance one of his best. But he’s made it clear that change is coming. Because it has to.

“I vow in the near future, I’m going to take that time needed, and please forgive me if I have to move some of the shows around until I get this under control,” Bret announced.

With his next concert set for July 5 in Airway Heights, Washington, Michaels is vowing to listen to his body this time. While fans may see some upcoming tour dates shifted, they’ve also received his heartfelt gratitude for their support.

Bret Michaels might be one of rock’s toughest survivors, but even he knows when it’s time to hit pause. After decades of defying medical odds, this latest health scare could finally push him to prioritize recovery over relentless touring. One thing’s for sure. His fans will be ready whenever he’s back on stage, healthy and recharged.
