A chilling story from an Indiana mother has online users buzzing after she shared a spine-tingling experience that happened during what should have been a weekend full of celebration and family fun. The post details a disturbing night in a Muncie hotel that still haunts her and her family to this day. The family never got answers, and they likely never will.
The Indiana woman shared her story on Reddit. It all started like any typical out-of-town trip for a youth sports family. They celebrated together, but later that night, things turned south when they were spooked by an ominous warning and shocking screams.
“Me and my family were out of town for my son’s hockey tournament,” she wrote. “Just for context, we’re in Indiana, Muncie to be exact. My son was doing great in all of his games and they played in the championship.”
To celebrate the win, the family joined the rest of the team at a local restaurant. It was a normal night full of food and fun, and they left around 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. so their younger daughter could get some sleep. But the night took a sharp turn into nightmare territory once they returned to their hotel.
“On our way in, the lady at the desk, probably in her 30s, told us we should not leave the hotel again because there was someone dangerous on the loose and they didn’t want anybody to have any troubles,” the mom recalled. “We didn’t think anything of it and went on with our lives… until at about 11 to 12 we heard a horrifying shriek.”
Indiana Woman Shares Scary Story That Still Haunts Her
What happened next sounds like something out of a horror movie. The family heard multiple screams, long, blood-curdling screams that left them frozen in fear.
“We didn’t know what it was but we all just kinda looked at each other,” she said. “Soon enough just minutes later, it happened again, this time worse, though blood curdling.”
Trying not to panic but clearly shaken, the family remembered the warning from the front desk and finally called the police. According to the mom, the dispatcher gave a vague “we’ll check it out” response, but they never followed up.
“The screams kept going on often for 30 to 40 seconds at a time,” she said. “They sounded like they were from a female but it was hard to tell.”
Feeling completely ignored and still rattled the next morning, they went straight to the police station. What they were told only deepened their unease.
“They told us that they found nothing but that was hard to believe,” she explained. “They told us it was probably an animal but that was extremely hard to buy. Unfortunately, we can only think the worst had happened.”
The internet, as always, had a lot to say. One person suggested that it may have been a big cat trying to lure in their prey. However, the family isn’t convinced.
While there’s no official explanation and the case remains unresolved, the emotional toll is clear. “We still don’t know what happened,” the mom concluded. “But it was difficult to sleep that night.”
This isn’t your run-of-the-mill creepy hotel story—it’s the kind of real-life nightmare that sticks with you. Whether it was an animal, a person in distress, or something even darker, the lack of answers only makes the story more chilling. For this Indiana family, that one night in Muncie turned into something they’ll never forget.
