Most people have probably played the risky little game of sniffing milk one day past its expiration date and deciding it’s probably fine. But one Wyoming family’s situation has the internet gagging after a man allegedly turned expired food into a full-blown lifestyle choice. And we’re not talking about canned soup that expired last month.

According to the man’s son, the family freezer contains a ham purchased back in 1992. The son says the ham is actually four years older than he is, which somehow makes the entire story even more disturbing. The bizarre family situation recently gained attention after the son shared details online, explaining that his father refuses to throw away almost anything edible no matter how questionable it becomes over time.

Apparently, the older man firmly believes expiration dates are meaningless and frozen food can survive forever. “It’s still good. Frozen meat doesnt go bad,” the father reportedly insisted when questioned about the ancient ham sitting in the freezer like some kind of terrifying time capsule.

Wyoming Man Forces Family To Eat Food Expired By Decades

The son described the Wyoming home as packed with expired and rotting food, claiming his father has developed serious hoarding tendencies over the years. But according to him, the problem goes beyond clutter. He says his father actively serves the questionable food to his wife despite obvious signs that it’s no longer safe to eat.

And some of the descriptions are enough to ruin anyone’s appetite for the rest of the day. The son alleges there are sauces coated in mold years after expiring, mayonnaise with strange streaks of discoloration, and even juice from 2015 containing floating chunks of mold. Somehow, the father reportedly sees nothing wrong with any of it.

“Every single thing is expired or rotten, and he feeds it to my mother as well,” the son claimed. As strange as the food obsession already sounds, the father apparently has other unusual beliefs that leave his son completely baffled. He reportedly compulsively shops while simultaneously refusing to throw anything away, and he prefers disposable plastic utensils over regular silverware.

While some people online initially suggested the older man may simply need help, the son pushed back against the idea that the behavior is harmless. He described his father as cruel and controlling throughout his childhood, calling him “the classic entitled boomer who thinks he knows better than everyone else.”

The Internet Is Horrified

The saddest part of the story may actually involve the son’s mother, who still lives in the environment despite allegedly knowing how unhealthy the situation has become. The son says he maintains contact with her but has largely cut ties with his father altogether.

Unsurprisingly, the internet reacted with a mixture of horror, disbelief, and dark humor. Some commenters joked that the 1992 ham probably deserves its own birth certificate at this point, while others expressed serious concern about food safety and the emotional toll of living in those conditions.

“A lot of times when this happens the person grew up in very difficult situations and refuses to throw things away. It’s a trauma response & subconscious fear that food will run out one day,” one person asked. “That’s appalling,” said another. “It may not go bad but it definitely doesn’t stay good,” a third person chimed in. “

It seems that this Wyoming man has a serious issue when it comes to food. Unfortunately, his family is also paying the price.
