For years, parenting debates online have been intense enough to make reality TV look calm, but one Texas mother just threw gasoline on the fire after posting a brutally honest video about disciplining her daughter. And now the internet is split.
The Houston, Texas mom, who says she’s raising three children, went viral after opening up about a situation involving her daughter and a shattered car window. According to her, the incident happened after she asked the child to return a younger sibling’s book to the vehicle. Instead, the back window ended up smashed. Whether it was an accident or intentional remains unclear, but the mother clearly believed it crossed a major line.
What really sent social media into chaos, though, was what came next. In an emotional video, the mom admitted she was so angry she dropped her daughter off at school before handling the situation further because she didn’t trust herself to react calmly in the moment. Then she revealed she planned to buy belts to discipline her daughter physically.
Texas Mother Shares Plans To Discipline Daughter With A Belt
Later, the Texas woman returned with an update confirming she had gone through with it. She said she bought two belts and gave her daughter “four lashes” tied to what she described as multiple incidents of bad behavior over recent weeks.
Still, she pushed back hard against accusations that she acted out of rage or abuse. “I did not whoop her because I was angry with her,” she explained. “I whipped her because I literally had no choice, period.” She went on to justify the punishment by pointing to the danger of shattered glass around her younger child. “Your decisions could have hurt somebody. It could have put glass in my other baby’s eyes,” she added.
The conversation only grew more heated when viewers began threatening to report her to Child Protective Services. But according to the mother, CPS already knows her family situation well, especially because her daughter reportedly has oppositional defiant disorder, often referred to as ODD.
“Me and child services, we are locked in,” she insisted. “They know me. They know I’m not a bad mom.” Some viewers defended the mom, arguing that modern parenting has become too passive and that discipline is necessary when dangerous behavior happens. Others were horrified by the idea of belts being used at all, saying the punishment crossed a line no matter the circumstances.
“I raised a son with ODD, I ended up having him arrested, he spent 63 days in Juvi and came home a brand new man. I know how hard it is 🥺🥺🥺 I wish you the best ,” one person commented. “Discipline doesn’t mean abuse,” said another. “Parenting can be rough,” a third person weighed in. “Don’t let it slide,” a fourth comment read.
The Internet Is Divided
The emotional centerpiece of the situation, however, may have been the conversation the mother later shared with her daughter. Instead of sounding cold or cruel, she appeared emotional and exhausted while trying to explain herself.
“I want that to be my last time ever using a belt,” she told her daughter. “I don’t ever wanna have to do that again. That was very hard.” She continued, “I wanna protect you. The last thing I wanna do is hurt you.”
That softer moment complicated things for a lot of viewers. The situation stopped feeling like simple internet outrage bait and started looking more like a messy, emotional parenting struggle playing out in public for millions of strangers to judge.
Parenting conversations online tend to become battlegrounds almost instantly, especially when discipline enters the chat. Add TikTok, emotions, and a controversial punishment method into the mix, and suddenly everyone becomes a parenting expert overnight.
This Texas mother certainly opened herself up to the opinions of others by posting on social media, and now she’s in the center of an online debate.
