A little Hollywood shade is making waves out of California after actor Nick Offerman openly criticized longtime star Dennis Quaid and his political leanings during a recent podcast appearance. The Parks and Recreation actor didn’t hold back when discussing his former co-star, and fans are definitely paying attention.
While speaking on Jon Lovett’s podcast Lovett or Leave It, Offerman reflected on working with Quaid on their film Sovereign. The conversation eventually drifted into politics, and that’s where things got interesting. According to Offerman, Quaid’s political stance took him by surprise after the project wrapped, per OK! Magazine.
The California-based actor claimed the MAGA shift seemed to happen suddenly. “Unfortunately, [he’s] a crazy [Donald] Trump guy with a gospel record,” Offerman said, clearly frustrated as he described what he believes was an unexpected transformation from the veteran Hollywood star.
Nick Offerman Speaks Out Against Dennis Quaid
Offerman went on to explain that the timing of it all felt strange to him. From his perspective, Quaid kept his political views relatively quiet for years before suddenly embracing them very publicly.
“He, like, exploded. Right after we finished the movie, he suddenly came out with a gospel country record and went on Tucker Carlson and f—– [Sean] Hannity to, like, play his Trump gospel songs,” Offerman said. “And we were like, ‘What?’”
For Offerman, the moment was particularly complicated because his feelings about Quaid go back decades. Growing up, he admired the actor and even considered him a personal hero in the film industry. So hearing his political commentary now seems to have left him conflicted.
“I mean, he’s a hero of my life. Like, I’ve looked up to him. He’s a great actor,” Offerman admitted during the discussion.
California Bad Blood Brewing?
During the podcast conversation, host Jon Lovett initially wondered if Offerman might have been referring to Dennis Quaid’s older brother, Randy Quaid, who has long been associated with more controversial public behavior. Offerman quickly clarified that Randy was indeed known for being outspoken, but that Dennis had largely avoided the spotlight in that regard until recently.
“He was very crazy. And he went away, but Dennis, like, kept it under wraps until just last year,” Offerman explained.
Offerman also pointed to some of Quaid’s recent political proximity to Donald Trump as part of what caught him off guard. The former Parks and Rec star mentioned the actor’s connection to a news story involving Air Force One and foreign policy developments.
“He was just on Air Force One,” Offerman said. “He just was on a flight. Like it was a news story that he was the first person to know about Iran. F—— Dennis Quaid.”
The Internet Is Divided
The moment highlights a broader reality in Hollywood, particularly in California, where political views often become public talking points among actors and entertainers. While the industry is largely known for leaning left politically, there are still plenty of stars who support conservative causes something that can occasionally lead to awkward or surprising revelations between colleagues.
“We need to get back to a place where people can freely and safely share their opinions (when they want) without being labeled as crazy,” one person commented online. “Hate to break it to you, but being conservative isn’t a crime,” said another. “It’s OK to not share the same opinions as others, you know,” a third person stated. “His criticism of Quaid now worshipping the President is valid,” a fourth comment read.
For Nick Offerman, the situation seems less about politics and more about the shock of discovering a new side of someone he once admired. Whether fans agree with him or not, his candid comments have certainly added another layer to the ongoing conversation surrounding celebrity politics in California and beyond.
