Miley Cyrus Former Hannah Montana Co-Star Hits Back After On-Set Drug Allegations: ‘That’s Not How I Remember It’

It looks like there’s a bit of behind-the-scenes drama brewing from Hannah Montana, and no, it’s not part of a Disney+ reboot. Miley Cyrus angered her former co-star, Mitchel Musso, who played Oliver Oken on the hit Disney Channel series. Now, he is calling out the singer after she accused him of smoking weed on set during their teenage years.

In the June 19 episode of her podcast Sorry We’re Stoned, Miley dropped what she probably thought was a funny memory about her time on Hannah Montana. But not everyone is laughing. When her mom, Tish Cyrus, asked her for a core memory from the show, Miley didn’t hesitate.

“Dad smoking pot and everyone blaming me for it,” she said. “It’s hilarious. He wasn’t sharing.”

Tish was apparently surprised by the idea that her then-husband, Billy Ray Cyrus, was the culprit. “They were calling me, saying, ‘B. Ray was smoking pot,’” she recalled. “And I was saying, ‘He would never do that.’” But Miley doubled down, adding, “It was Mitchel Musso. It was both.” Well, that last part didn’t sit too well with Mitchel.

Miley Cyrus Called Out For Rewriting Hannah Montana History

In a statement to E! News, he responded with what can only be described as a politely pointed clapback:
“Well, that’s not how I remember it. However, I’ve got plenty of stories from those years that might be worth having a conversation about. If we’re revisiting Hannah Montana history—just say the word. All love to Miley and the fam, even when the rewrites get this creative.”

To be fair, Miley didn’t seem malicious in her storytelling. It felt more like casual reminiscing, especially as she laughed about the situation with her mom. But Mitchel clearly wants it on record that he wasn’t lighting up backstage at Disney Channel.

Meanwhile, Billy Ray Cyrus is staying out of it as his rep declined to comment on the claim when asked by the outlet. Maybe he’s letting this one slide under the radar, considering the family’s recent ups and downs have been making headlines on their own.

Despite the hazy weed memory, Miley has been reflecting on her Hannah Montana years in a more positive light lately. During a May appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, she shared how much the show and her character meant to her fans, particularly in the LGBTQ+ community.

“There’s Nickelodeon gays and Disney gays,” she joked. “Nickelodeon gays like boogers and bro jokes, and Disney—I would like to think—is a little bit more fabulous. Especially if it’s about a teenage pop star wearing a wig being the most famous drag queen for kids ever.”

That’s the kind of Miley quote fans live for. Still, it seems not everyone is thrilled about the way memories are being recounted. With Mitchel hinting that he has stories of his own, could we be on the verge of a Disney Channel tell-all? Let’s just say if he ever writes a memoir, Gen Z and Millennial fans will be first in line.

For now, we’ll chalk this up as another “he said, she said” moment in Hollywood history. But one thing’s for sure: things on the Hannah Montana set might have been a lot more interesting than we ever realized. We’re still waiting for Miley Cyrus, or the other cast members to spill more tea.
