Miley Cyrus has never been one to hold back. Whether it’s through her music, fashion, or fearless life choices, she’s always marched to the beat of her own drum. Now, she’s opening up about something fans have speculated about for years. Does she want to become a mom?
In a recent episode of The Interview podcast by The New York Times with Lulu Garcia-Navarro, Miley Cyrus got candid about where she stands on motherhood, and her answer was refreshingly honest and very Miley.
The former Hannah Montana star, who’s now a Grammy-winning artist and cultural icon, revealed that having kids just isn’t something she’s passionate about.
“It’s not something I’m focused on,” she said. “For being such an opinionated, kind of sure person, this is an element in my life that I’ve always been pretty not super attached to, like a yes or no answer.”
While chatting about her life and career, she made an interesting connection between skipping out on motherhood and choosing not to launch a makeup line, something nearly every major pop star has done at this point.
Miley Cyrus Says Motherhood Doesn’t Make Sense For Her
“I am one of the only artists that doesn’t have a makeup line,” she pointed out, explaining that it just never made sense to her. Even her stepdad, Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell, who’s now married to her mom Tish, agreed it was the right move. Cyrus explained, “It made so much sense to me… I feel that way about motherhood.”
In typical Miley fashion, she laid it all out without sugarcoating. “I’ve never been overly passionate about being a parent,” she said, adding that being a mom requires “a lot of responsibility and devotion and energy.”
She even joked about how long parenting actually lasts, giving a nod to her mom for still being her rock. “And when I say 18 years, I mean 33 because I’m still a baby,” she said, laughing. “So, I’ve never felt the burn, you know, and I think for me, like, the burn is everything.”
Miley’s Focused On The Music
It’s a bold statement in a culture that often assumes women, especially women in their 30s, should want kids. But Miley’s take is honest and insightful, and it’s already resonating with a lot of people. While some fans expressed surprise online, others praised her for being self-aware enough to know what she truly wants.
And let’s be real, not everyone is meant to be a parent. It doesn’t make someone less loving, less nurturing, or less complete. Miley’s been through more reinventions than most artists dream of, and she’s clearly figured out who she is and what she’s willing to take on. Sleepless nights, sippy cups, and preschool pickups just aren’t it for her.
“What a beautiful soul, worked through her personality! I celebrate her work in therapy. So well spoken,” one person commented.
“Miley is becoming the mom to the young singers who have come onto the scene after her. That is so endearing!” said another.
At the end of the day, Miley Cyrus is giving voice to a choice many women are afraid to say out loud, and that in itself is powerful. Whether she’s swinging on wrecking balls or dropping soul-stirring ballads, one thing’s for sure, Miley does life on her own terms. And that includes knowing that motherhood isn’t part of her current path.
