A California woman says what should have been one of the happiest moments of her life, moving into a newly purchased home, quickly shifted into something far more unsettling. At first, everything about the property felt normal. Boxes were unpacked, rooms were being arranged, and the excitement of a fresh start was in full swing. But tucked inside the home, she says, was something left behind by the previous owners that immediately changed the atmosphere in a way she still can’t fully explain.
And according to her, it all started with a picture and a message that she can’t get out of her head. While going through the home, the California homeowner says she came across a framed image of Jesus. At first, she didn’t think much of it. That is until she flipped it over.
On the back, written in capital letters, was a handwritten message that immediately caught her attention. “PLEASE STAYS WITH HOUSE. ALWAYS.” That was only the beginning.
A Strange First Impression in a New California Home
The message continued in a more personal tone, suggesting the image was meant to remain in the home no matter what. She says the note read like this. “Please stays with house. Always. This was here when we bought this house… think its suppose to stay here? Helps make the home happy. Watches over it even if in the closet. Smiley face.“
“Hope you love this picture and this house as much as me and my family. God bless you!” The note was dated from the years the previous family lived there, reportedly between 2010 and 2020. The California woman says something about the wording and the intensity of the request.
Well, it just left her uneasy. She also later learned that the previous owners were known in the neighborhood as “doomsday prepper” types, which only added to the feeling that the message carried more weight than just sentimental decoration. While she admits she doesn’t know exactly what to make of it, she says she made a decision early on.
Message Felt More Like a Warning
The picture stayed where it was found. And it hasn’t moved since. Now, three years after moving in, she says the framed image still sits in the same spot inside the home. In a laundry room area where it was first placed. In a follow-up clip, she even showed viewers the cabinet behind where the picture originally rested, noting its age and placement made the situation feel even more unusual.
“The painting has been in the house for decades. And there’s a message on it to not remove it from the house. So I am not messing with that warning. He’s safe in a cabinet,” she states firmly.
Curiosity Turned Into Unease
Despite the uncertainty, she says she’s not taking any chances. “I’ve seen this movie before,” she admitted, implying she prefers not to tempt fate. What started as a simple home purchase has turned into a lingering mystery for this California homeowner.
Whether the message was meant as harmless sentiment or something more symbolic, she says she has no plans to remove the portrait anytime soon. In her words, some things are better left exactly where you find them. Even if you never fully understand why.
