Grease movie fans are going to love the latest news about the classic film. Coming soon a new experience will begin satisfying those fans who long for another trip back into the 50’s.
According to Pop Sugar HBO Max has ordered a Rydell High Spinoff series that will be set in the 1950s. Just weeks after announcing a Grease prequel film “Summer Loving” HBO Max has now added to the 50’s fun by ordering a straight-to-series spinoff musical of the pop culture classic hit film.
The prequel will give all of us Danny Zuko and Sandy Olson fans an up-close detailed look into their magical romance from the very beginning.
We will also be introduced to a new class of students at Rydell High.
The upcoming series will re-imagine the original movie while still being set in the ’50s and feature big musical numbers from the era. It’ll explore the usual topics of high-school dramas, including the horrors of puberty and peer pressures of high school, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“This is high school and life in the small-town USA told on the scale of a big rock ‘n’ roll musical,” Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max’s head of original content, said in a statement. “It’s Grease 2.0 but with the same spirit, energy, and excitement you immediately think of when you hear any of these iconic songs.”
The Rydell High series will be produced by Paramount Television. At this time there have been no release dates announced. The series will air on the new upcoming HBO Max streaming service which will launch in beta later in 2019, with an official release coming in spring 2020. The Wall Street Journal says that AT&T and WarnerMedia might offer a second, cheaper subscription plan that will be subsidized by ads.

That being said it is believed HBO Max may have a huge success on their hands after incorporating the Grease prequel, Summer Loving, and new spinoff Rydell High series into their mix.
