Florida Tenant’s Outrageous Rent Dodge Has Everyone Reeling: ‘Screw or Be Screwed’

A Florida woman seemingly outdid herself in creative irresponsibility, turning a simple rent problem into a saga of broken promises and financial chaos. At first glance, her plan seemed charmingly naive. But as it unfolded, it became painfully clear that naivety was only the tip of the iceberg.

It started innocently enough. Trel, a Florida resident, was preparing for the end of her lease when her roommate casually mentioned she’d be moving closer to family. A little late, a little expensive, but understandable. Or so it seemed.

Rent was paid for a couple of months, and everything was normal according to the Florida woman’s TikTok share. Then came April. Suddenly, the roommate, who lacked a bank account and had an expired ID, announced that she couldn’t pay the rent because she had “other priorities.” What were these priorities? A road trip. Hotels. Airbnbs. Portable chargers. All while suggesting that the easiest way out of the rent problem was to just… get evicted.

It’s hard to imagine anyone treating an eviction notice like a quirky life hack, but that’s exactly what happened. Needless to say, this was not on Trel’s bingo card. So she was left juggling responsibilities while her roommate wandered off, blissfully oblivious to the chaos she was leaving behind.

Money Talks, Promises Don’t

Here’s the moral. No one wants to learn the hard way. Don’t trust people blindly when it comes to money. Not friends, not roommates, not even family. Someone promising to pay you back is not the same as someone who will actually pay you back.

By May, Trel was footing the entire rent bill alone. Her roommate, claiming she had no money to contribute, vanished into the horizon. Trel, anticipating no repayment, salvaged what she could from the roommate’s paycheck, sent the rest, and blocked all contact.

Money will always show you someone’s true colors,” one follower warns.

You did what you had to do. It’s really screw or be screwed,” cautioned another.

Smart move. You beat her at her own game,” one more adds.

An occasional email appeared later, largely ignored. Online reactions summed it up. Refusing to pay rent while living it up elsewhere is reckless. Eviction is catastrophic. Trel did what any sane person would do, she protected herself.

Some lessons sting more than others. Watch who you trust, don’t treat rent like a suggestion, and remember that people’s priorities are often far from yours. Florida may be famous for beaches and sunshine. But it’s also home to stories that remind us that irresponsibility is contagious, and eviction is forever, or at least feels that way.
