A 75-year-old veteran is currently in a coma after being punched by a DoorDash driver in an incident that has shocked the community and ignited outrage online. The confrontation, which reportedly stemmed from a request to slow down, ended with devastating consequences no one could have imagined.
The incident unfolded in Wixom, Michigan, on December 28, when Lloyd Poole approached a driver near the end of his driveway. According to reports, Poole was concerned about how fast the car was moving through the neighborhood and decided to speak up. That driver was later identified as Ryan Turner, who was working as a DoorDash delivery driver at the time. What should have been a brief exchange quickly escalated into violence.
According to WXYZ, Turner allegedly got out of his vehicle and punched Poole in the head. The blow knocked the elderly man to the ground. He never got back up. “My dad fell. Never got up. Never moved. And the DoorDash driver got back in his vehicle and drove away,” Poole’s daughter, Jen Shaw, said. The suddenness of the attack and the decision to flee the scene left Poole’s family reeling.

Emergency responders rushed Poole to the hospital, where doctors performed urgent surgery, removing part of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain. Since that day, he has remained in a coma. “He’s not responding. He can’t talk. He’s not awake,” Shaw shared. “We don’t know when he’s going to get out of this hospital bed. That may never happen.” For a family already grappling with shock, the uncertainty surrounding brain injuries has only added to their pain.
Turner later turned himself in to police and admitted to hitting Poole before leaving the scene. He claimed he felt threatened by the 75-year-old veteran, a justification that many have struggled to understand given the outcome. Police arrested Turner and charged him with aggravated assault. Records show he had previously been arrested for assault and battery in 2022, though those charges were reduced, along with past charges for driving with a suspended license.
DoorDash responded swiftly, condemning the incident. A spokesperson called the situation “absolutely appalling and unacceptable,” adding that the company has “zero tolerance for violence” and permanently removed Turner from the platform. While the statement emphasized cooperation with law enforcement, those words offer little comfort to a family watching their loved one fight for his life.
