While passing through a big city, it is not uncommon to see the less fortunate asking for spare change. While that is a very sad and depressing thing to see or think about, it’s just the reality of life. However, this recently posted TikTok video is a little different. While this New York man is still asking strangers for spare change, the way he is doing it is quite creative. The clip has around 800K likes and 4.9 million views, as this man uses some kind of fishing rod to ask for money.
The TikTok video begins with the person recording sitting in the back of a vehicle as they are stuck in some New York traffic. However, out of the person’s window, viewers can see a plastic cup attached to some kind of long and bendy stick. The cup can then be seen getting shaken back and forth as if whoever is holding the other end is expecting something in return. The person then pans their phone over to show a homeless man holding the end of the item.

The TikTok comment section was rolling following this reveal. Many would flood the video in order to leave behind their own thoughts and jokes about the encounter. “Give him a dollar for creativity,” wrote one. Another pointed out, “I honestly prefer this.” One more person joked, “New York City is not a real place.” Someone else then stated, “Unfortunately, this would’ve won me over.” Finally, one last commenter also said, “The creativity would have gotten $5 out of me.” It would seem as though many social media users would have donated to the man in need, just because they find his creation funny.
Although with that being said, the person recording did not fork over any spare change for the New York Man. Despite that, though, the man doesn’t seem offended by the refusal as he just pulls his cup back and moves on. He can be seen walking down the sidewalk, most likely going to other vehicles with the same intentions.
All in all, this is a very creative way to handle the situation this New York man has been placed in. Hopefully, he got all the money he needed that day, and things started looking up for him sooner rather than later. While there may always be people in need, more people could also go out and attempt to help their fellow citizens.
