A Minnesota woman will spend almost 40 years behind bars after a court found her guilty on multiple serious charges involving her children. The sentencing came after a three-week trial in Crow Wing County, culminating in a verdict that left even seasoned officials calling the case one of the most disturbing they had ever encountered.
Minnesota authorities revealed that 35-year-old Jorden Marie Borders engaged in a prolonged pattern of abuse and manipulation that spanned more than five years. Her actions included forcing her children to appear sick, staging symptoms for doctors, and physically harming them in various ways.

Investigators determined that Borders routinely drew blood from her nine-year-old son before medical appointments, making his hemoglobin levels dangerously low. She also forced another child to vomit and feign asthma symptoms to secure unnecessary medication. In some cases, she falsely claimed her children suffered from conditions like brittle bone disease. She forced them to wear medical gear such as casts, boots, and neck braces without any real injuries.
Testimony from the children detailed disturbing forms of punishment and control. They recounted being struck with belts, charging cords, and spoons. They were left outside in freezing weather without clothing until their skin burned. Denied food and threatened with knives and guns, according to People.
Social media evidence presented during the trial showed Borders discussing “end-of-life” decisions for one child and falsely telling others the child was on a ventilator. She even claimed, at one point, that the cause of death would only be known after an autopsy, despite the child being alive.
Minnesota Mom Orchestrates Years of Financial Fraud
So what was behind this Minnesota mother’s reign of terror toward her innocent children? Money. Borders’ actions were not only abusive but also financially motivated. She submitted false claims to obtain Medicaid benefits and personal care assistant (PCA) payments, totaling more than $18,000.
Officials said she claimed to provide PCA services herself while continuing the cycle of abuse. Borders was arrested in November 2022 after the investigation uncovered the extent of her crimes. She was convicted on 11 charges, including child torture, attempted murder, stalking, and theft by false representation.
“Bleeding them dry is a new level of evil,” one angry parent writes.
“So scary for a mother, or anyone for that matter, to be able to do that to her children,” another adds.
“She should be sentenced to life with no parole. God help those children.”
Her nearly 40-year sentence reflects the severity of the suffering inflicted on her three children. However, the emotional and psychological scars will remain far longer. Authorities expressed hope for the children’s recovery, though the trauma endured over the years will likely take a lifetime to heal.
