The casino allegedly discovered that the woman had previously enrolled in Pennsylvania’s Self-Exclusion Program, a system designed to help people who struggle with gambling addiction. Participants voluntarily place themselves on a list that bars them from entering casinos and collecting gambling winnings.
Pennsylvania Woman Wins Casino Jackpot But Things Go Downhill From There
The woman had reportedly chosen the program’s lifetime exclusion option back in 2019. That decision came back into focus the moment she hit the jackpot. Rather than processing a payout, casino officials reportedly contacted Pennsylvania State Police after realizing she was listed in the state’s self-exclusion database.
Troopers responded to the property, escorted her out, and issued a citation for trespassing. While the exact amount of the jackpot has not been disclosed, it appears the money won’t be making its way into her bank account.
That’s because Pennsylvania’s Self-Exclusion Program has strict rules. According to program guidelines, participants who voluntarily ban themselves from gambling are not allowed to collect winnings if they later return and gamble anyway.
In other words, even if luck is on your side, the payout isn’t. The situation has sparked plenty of discussion online, with many people expressing shock that someone could win a jackpot and still leave empty-handed.
