She wrote: “The Year of the Fire Horse calls us to courage, to energy, to intention, and to fearless creation. It is a year for bold ideas, decisive action, and turning vision into something enduring.” She added that she was stepping into the year with “clarity and conviction” and was excited to “bring forward projects” she’s been working on behind the scenes. The message ended on an uplifting note: “Forward, with strength. With gratitude. With purpose. Excited for what is ahead. Happy Lunar Year.”
However, the post drew criticism. In Chinese and Vietnamese traditions, white is commonly associated with mourning and funerals, not celebration. Red, by contrast, symbolizes luck and prosperity and is the color most often worn during Lunar New Year festivities.
Online critics didn’t hold back. One commenter called her “ever inappropriate,” while another accused her of being “culturally insensitive and ignorant.” Someone else questioned, “Why’s she acting like this is her culture?” Another added, “White is for death and funerals in Chinese culture,” and a fourth bluntly told her, “White is bad luck for the year ahead.”
