Washington isn’t exactly a stranger to news that makes you shake your head, but this latest case might just take the cake. Imagine leading police on a reckless chase while hauling stolen goods and illegal drugs. And—yes—a fully functional bong installed in your truck’s dashboard. That’s exactly what one Thurston County man did, and the result? His 98th arrest. And somehow, you can’t help but be equal parts horrified and incredulous.

The scene unfolded on a typical evening in March, but what started as a routine police observation quickly escalated into something straight out of a dark comedy. Deputies in Thurston County spotted a white pickup truck with two occupants that had been tied to a string of thefts across western Washington. Before any lights or sirens were even activated, the driver was already infamous in the area for a long list of past arrests. Took off like a bat out of hell.

According to Kiro7.com news, efforts to slow him down with a PIT maneuver failed, and the truck barreled through intersections in downtown Olympia before making its way into Lacey. Police eventually called off the pursuit due to the extreme danger posed by the driver’s maneuvers. A few minutes later, the vehicle was abandoned near College Street, leaving deputies to track down the suspects on foot. Both were quickly taken into custody at gunpoint, ending a chase that could have gone far worse.

Dashboard Bong Discovered, Because Normal Getaways Are Overrated For Washington Man

A search of the pickup revealed a surreal mix of items. Stolen merchandise from multiple stores, meth, heroin, fentanyl, and the pièce de résistance—a custom-built bong embedded in the dashboard, allowing the driver to comfortably smoke while on the road. The audacity of it all is staggering. It’s one thing to commit theft or run from police; it’s quite another to outfit your getaway vehicle with a smoking device as if it were a luxury feature.

The male suspect already had four felony convictions, 27 misdemeanors, and 97 prior arrests. This latest escapade has added a cocktail of new charges. These include DUI, eluding officers, and possession of narcotics. Authorities say he will also face organized retail theft charges in Lewis County once released from Thurston County Jail.

This is the 98th time he has been arrested…2 more times and he gets a new house and car, and 5000 dollars a month for life,” one commenter writes.

Does he have a punch card?” one more asks.

“Let him go! Let’s go for 100! SMH! This is ridiculous!!!” another adds.

Some people treat criminal records as a warning. Others apparently treat them as a badge of honor. For this man, it seems to be the latter. Ninety-eight arrests is a number that boggles the mind, and the addition of a dashboard bong only cements his status as a true outlaw of modern Washington.

A Criminal Record That Defies Logic

Whether it’s high-speed chases, stolen goods, or drug-fueled stunts. This case is a reminder that sometimes the news is stranger than fiction. Washington residents can safely say one thing. You haven’t seen audacity until you’ve witnessed a driver turn a high-speed chase into a rolling drug lounge.

For law enforcement, it’s another day in the books. For everyone else, it’s equal parts horror, amusement, and disbelief. Ninety-eight arrests and counting. What could go wrong next?
