Texas country music legend and lifelong cannabis crusader, Willie Nelson, has hit a major bump in the smoky road. At 92 years old, the Always on My Mind hitmaker’s health has taken a serious turn, forcing him to put an end to his favorite pastime, smoking weed.

Sadly, the Texas native’s lungs have finally given up the fight, forcing him to put down the joint for good. But even that has not deterred Willie Nelson from catching his daily buzz. And while he’s still nibbling on the occasional edible, sources close to the icon say it just doesn’t pack the same punch, and Willie’s feeling it in more ways than one.

For decades, a joint was practically a permanent fixture in Willie’s hand, as essential to his image as his guitar and braids. But time, and a whole lot of smoke, have caught up with him. After battling emphysema, pneumonia, and even a collapsed lung back in 1981, doctors and his own body have shut down the party.

Needless to say, Willie Nelson is not too happy about the circumstances. “I can’t smoke anymore. My lungs have already said, ‘Don’t do that.’ So, I don’t really do anything now, much except a few edibles.” Globe Magazine insiders reveal that Willie is doing what is expected, for the most part.“It was a habit he appreciated and relied on both alone and with others, but now he’s got no choice.

Willie Nelson Goes From High Times To Hard Times

While the Texas outlaw is still reaching for a little THC in the form of gummies, friends say Willie Nelson isn’t exactly thrilled with the new buzz. The edibles just don’t deliver the same mellow magic, and he’s finding it hard to adjust. The ritual, the camaraderie, the feeling. Everything is all different now. And it’s got Willie bumming in a big way.

Insiders say Willie Nelson is going through some rough patches since ditching weed. He is dealing with including alot of the fallout, including anxiety, insomnia, and the occasional mood swing. There’ve been reports of nerves, sleepless nights, and even some dreams that tend to hit a little harder these days.

Despite the blow to his normal buzz, Willie Nelson’s not about to throw in the towel on life or his music. He may be off the smoke and on the edible, but he’s still on the stage. Willie admits that he will keep pushing on, buzz-free with a brave face for the fans. Those who’ve loved him through every phase, red-headed stranger to green-smoke advocate, have traveled through.

He knows the decision is the right one. His lungs have done more work than most. And these days, he’s not trying to push his luck. It’s a sacrifice he’s making for his health, his family, and the fans who still pack his shows.

Willie Nelson may not be lighting up anymore, but he’s still shining. Even if he’s secretly side-eyeing his gummies and daydreaming about his former puff-puff days gone by. He’s doing what needs to be done. It’s not easy giving up your favorite vice after decades. But if anyone can roll with the change, it’s Willie Nelson.
