Florida airport security at Tampa International Airport made a startling discovery when inspecting the luggage of a passenger who appeared to be traveling normally. Alongside the remains, authorities discovered prohibited plant species that had not been declared. The passenger explained that the bones were intended for use in cultural rituals. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials marked the bones as a health risk and immediately confiscated them. Carlos C. Martel, Director of Field Operations for CBP’s Miami/Tampa office, reveals the remains were seized and destroyed to ensure safety.
