Only in Ohio could someone wake up to this kind of chaos. One unsuspecting woman thought her dog was just being sweet, maybe bringing her a sock or a favorite toy. Instead, she got a surprise that turned her peaceful morning into something straight out of a low-budget nature documentary.

The woman’s dog proudly trotted into the bedroom at 5 a.m., carrying what it must’ve thought was the ultimate prize. Unfortunately, that prize was a very real, very alive opossum. Yes, her furry best friend dropped a wild animal right into her bed. While she was still sleeping in it.

The poor Ohio woman didn’t realize she had been snoozing next to her new “bedmate” for nearly four hours. When she finally noticed, she was understandably horrified. Not to mention her once-clean pillow told the whole story, now smudged with dirt from her unexpected roommate. The opossum, for its part, looked perfectly cozy. Probably terrified, but cozy.

So what was the terrified Ohio woman to do? Well, @one_ofthe_cool_kids_tina took to TikTok to share her true-life horror, where she handled the nightmare with humor and a little bit of panic. After calling the police, she was told to reach out to wildlife officials. Their advice? Simply release it outside. Of course, assuming it wasn’t injured or caring for babies. So, armed with gloves and nerves of steel, she scooped up the little intruder and carried it out to her gate.

When a Dog Gift Nearly Causes A Heart Attack

At first, the frightened opossum didn’t move, leading her to believe it was hurt. Turns out, it was just playing possum, literally. These creatures freeze up when terrified, entering a temporary paralysis. When she checked later, it had vanished. Nature: 1. Ohio woman: 0.

Once her story hit social media, people couldn’t stop laughing. Many joked that she was lucky it was “just” an opossum and not a raccoon, squirrel, or skunk. Others teased that the opossum looked so peaceful it should’ve stayed, with comments like, “Happy adoption day!” and “Well, what are we naming him?”

I’ve slept in bed with a lot worse,” one follower writes.

The death I would have died,” another adds.

Bless her. She’s scared to death,” one more states.

Some commenters admitted they’d have fainted on the spot. While others weirdly wished it had happened to them. Only to prove that the internet’s relationship with wildlife is as strange as ever. Now, this Ohio woman can add “slept with an opossum” to her list of life experiences, and honestly, that’s one memory she’ll never scrub out of her mind.

As for Lucy? She probably still thinks it deserves a treat for being such a “good hunter.” So if you ever find yourself in this predicament and your dog brings you an unwanted “present,” maybe double-check before you thank them. Because nothing says good morning quite like realizing your cuddle buddy has a tail and tiny claws.
