Earlier this week The Cleveland Cavaliers had officially pulled themselves out of the running for Utah Jazz star and three-time all-star Donovan Mitchell. It is not that the Cavaliers don’t have the right pieces to make a trade happen, it is that the Cavaliers refuse to give up any of the three players, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. The Cavaliers refuse to give up any core players for what seems like any player.

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ plan to keep their young core together is for good reason. The Cavs had the best season yet without LeBron James since he left for the Los Angeles Lakers and that is thanks to the Cavaliers’ young cores’ stellar play. That brings us to Collin Sexton.

Sexton was the team’s first lottery pick when LeBron left for Laker Land. Sexton brought an underdog mentality and extremely high work ethic to the rebuilding Cavaliers. With Collin being a restricted free agent and him not being very happy with the Cavaliers’ offer he could still be shipped off in a trade as the Jazz are still interested in him.

Cavaliers still active in trade talks

“Nonetheless, the Cavs remained active in talks, and it’s pretty clear the Jazz have a strong interest in Collin Sexton, the restricted free agent who remains unsigned,” Amico wrote. “The Cavs and Jazz could still sign-and-trade on Sexton without Mitchell being involved, sources said. Along with Sexton, the Cavs have also made Cedi Osman available in talks throughout the offseason, as we relayed previously.” as reported by Cavaliers Nation.com

Collin Sexton to Utah makes sense for the Jazz as a Mitchell trade seems inevitable. There Sexton would get a chance to prove that he is a top young guard in the NBA. What would the Cavaliers get in return for Sexton?

Clearly, they wouldn’t just ship Collin off without the offer being pretty intriguing. The return would have to be a player that would bring a lot to the table for the Cavaliers as well as one of Utah’s many first-round picks.

Win-win Situation?

As tough as it would be for Cavalier fans to see Collin Sexton go a trade like this would be a win-win situation for both sides as Collin Would get to go prove himself and the Cavaliers would get another solid player to help them make a deep playoff push. For now, we will all just have to wait and see what happens with these trade talks and if both sides could come to an agreement to make everyone happy.
