One North Carolina woman documented a tense situation at a store that included an ambulance, medical emergency, and an elderly Karen causing chaos, all within the span of a one-minute TikTok video. “Today in Trump’s America,” the social media user @miss_undastood22 captioned the clip.
The video starts off with an elderly woman standing in the middle of a store, in a clear dispute with an employee. She has a cart full of products and is expressing her anger over having to wait. She is asking for a manager, but the manager is unavailable, and it’s because there is another customer with a medical emergency.
An ambulance was called to the location to help the ailing customer. Meanwhile, the elderly Karen was worried about herself, revealing that she was “trying to be nice,” but that she was on a time restriction. “I have to be home before dark,” she can be heard saying.

The Karen tells the employee that she’s been waiting for 30 minutes, while the employee screams back at her, explaining that an ambulance was at the scene and that the manager was dealing with something more important at that time.
Finally, the woman filming the video, tells the employee to calm down and leave the confrontation. She encourages her to go back to work, and reminds the Karen that her life doesn’t take priority over someone else’s emergency.
The video poster then gets annoyed herself, raising her voice and calling out the Karen herself. She later pans the camera toward the window, showing the ambulance in the parking lot. “There is an EMS outside. Someone is injured and that woman was mad because she wasn’t the priority. “With EMS coming in to roll somebody out. She’s fussin’ because she wasn’t a priority,” she adds in disbelief.
Meanwhile, TikTok had plenty to say about the interaction. They had jokes, their own personal stories, and comments about the video.
TikTok Wasn’t Happy
“Thank you for standing up for that employee,” one person commented. “The lack of empathy has to be studied,” stated another. “Working with public is the WORST,” a third person chimed in. “A lot elderly customers grew up with the mentality that if they are a customer,” another weighed in.
“I was raised to respect my elders, and everything I’ve learned in the past decade makes that so so very hard,” a fifth comment read. “A population largely ungrateful and entitled. They just cannot accept anything other than catering to them,” declared one person. Another suggested that age didn’t matter. “Respect who respects you,” she added.
While waiting at the grocery store can be annoying and cut into large parts of the day, especially for someone who may be on a time restriction, emergencies happen every day. Understanding and patience are key in situations like that. Meanwhile, this North Carolina Karen may want to remember that one day she may be the one with the emergency, and she’d want the fastest possibly treatment.
