“One Tree Hill” fans still love to talk about and celebrate their favorite TV show. In fact, there are still many, many, ‘OTH’ reunions and even a convention for fans in North Carolina. Recently, actress Hilarie Burton, who played Peyton Sawyer on the show, spoke out about how the series was originally supposed to end up.
‘One Tree Hill’ Shocker: Peyton & Lucas Weren’t Supposed To End Up Together!
While so many “One Tree Hill” fans completely love the coupling that is Lucas Scott and Peyton Sawyer, it almost didn’t happen. Hilarie Burton says that the original plan for the end of the series was for Lucas to end up with Brooke Davis and Petyon to be with hunky single dad Jake.
“I remember, season two or season three, I was told that it was going to be Peyton and Jake that ended up together and Brooke and Lucas,” Burton reveals. However, Hilarie’s chemistry with leading man Chad Michael Murray was just too much to deny.

“We were all working together in different pairs and seeing where chemistry was, I mean, Chad and I just have always had a chemistry. We’ve always either love/hated each other or really love each other. And it had evolved in such a way that by the end of our time on the series, Chad was just one of my favorite people to work with ever…. At a certain point, it was kind of like, ‘Yeah, forget whatever we wanted to do before, it’s us.’”
As “One Tree Hill” fans know, Lucas and Peyton ended up together and had a daughter, Sawyer Scott, while Brooke ended up marrying Petyon’s ex-boyfriend, Julian, and giving birth to twin boys Davis and Jude. While viewers loved how the series ended and where the characters were in the series finale, fans can’t help but wonder what life would have been like in Tree Hill if Peyton and Jake and Lucas and Brooke would have ended up together.
