What we did not know is that Y&R veteran Eric Braeden had wanted Michael Muhney fired even before the nasty breast groping allegations were made by Hunter Tyler King.

There were rumors and speculation and some true facts that reveal that The Young and the Restless producers had been secretly in talks and multiple meeting with Muhney, who actually wanted to return to the show and the role.

New reports revel that several other cast members of The Young and the Restless banned together and threatened to boycott work if producers brought Muhney back.

One source close to the show stated,

“Informal talks between producers of Y&R and Michael Muhney’s camp began earlier this summer,” an insider told Radar. “Michael really wanted to come back and play the role he loved. Willing to do whatever it took to make everyone comfortable, Michael promised to be on his best behavior.”

“It really looked like it was going to happen, until the cast found out,” the source continued. “Led by veteran Doug Davidson, the cast felt betrayed by the move. Everyone had moved on from the difficult time, so for this to be happening was shocking. The cast said if Muhney was re-hired, they would essentially boycott and not film.”

In the end the numbers and the voices of the cast of The Young and the Restless won out and the role was eventually recast in hopes of saving the popular daytime show from cast strikes and ratings tankings.
